  • Moon phase: New moon is ideal for darker skies
  • Activity peak: Usually around magnetic midnight

  • Light pollution: Get at least 30km from cities
  • Horizon: Find a location with clear northern (or southern) horizon
  • Weather: Check cloud cover forecasts
  • Patience: Activity can be sporadic, allow 2-3 hours
